Hey, no peeking!

There has been knitting - but I can't share. It would spoil the Christmas surprise.

Harumph

I could't get out of town to get to work. It was icy! under the unplowed snow. I got past the H.S. (where a police car was stationed) past the semi truck that was trying to go up the hill I was going down, past the sand truck that nearly ran me off the road when he moved into my lane of oncoming traffic (to get around the 3 car bump-up), through the first set of twisty turns, only to be stopped and turned back by 2 police cars at a 3 car smash-up before the second set of twisty turns. Well, the turn around was quite tricky and after about 5 mins I was headed home....back through the twisty turns (at least this side now had sand on it) past the tow truck at the first bump-up, up the hill (the one the semi had trouble with) and past the H.S. that now had 2 police cars with flashers. The H.S. was on a 2 hour delay when I left the house at 7:03 a.m. - school was cancelled by the time I got home at 7:38.

That whole trip......maybe 4 miles total.

So I called into work and took a vacation day. Ugh! Not that I wanted to brave the drive (and boy howdy it was bad enough to watch on the news today) but I don't want to miss any training. Forcasters are now telling of 17 degrees overnight which will freeze any thawing that happened today into the dreaded "black ice." I am freaking out already! Oh and school has been cancelled for tomorrow already. That does not bode well for my drive in the morning...if they don't think the buses can make the roads, well there is little hope for me. I thought I hated driving in the rain these past weeks, hell - I'd take that over this snow/ice crap any day.

snowy day

If you are watching MNF you are witnessing the phenomenon known as snow in Seattle.
Originally from Chicagoland I laugh at this snow (actually I smile) until I realize that my neck of the woods (and indeed there are woods, winding roads through woods - dark ominous woods) there are people/towns that aren't prepared for driving in snow....which makes for a 2 hour commute to work. Ahem. not laughing.

But at home I have my Christmas tree up, my fireplace on (gas) and I knit, knit, knit. This is the beginning of The Prismo Hat from my calendar. Made with the suggested yarn Dalegarn Stork. (nice yarn - even if it is cotton) And I learned something new. It was the tubular cast-on (uh-oh 80's flashback "tubular, man") using this tutorial. Brilliant tutorial. It is a bit of work, but it makes a kick-butt edge :-)

tiny little pieces

After what feels like forever, I have finished this Barbie sweater coat. I started it ages ago (um before the job) and little by little (excuse the pun) the sweater pieces began to multiply.

It gave the Thanksgiving company pause.....in fact the words were "that's just creepy Aunt Sherry" Tiny little knitted pieces pinned to death on the blocking board. It was creepy. But now the pieces have been assembled. (If you don't like finishing, then I don't suggest finishing an extremely small sweater) It looks great, but it will be a one-of-a-kind. Never again will I knit this tiny wonder.
But if you would like the fun go here.

my SP9 package came!

My SP9 package was delivered late Wednesday, but with the happenings of Thanksgiving I couldn't post until now.
What did I get????

Good Stuff!
Beautiful Mountain Colors yarn and a Mountain Colors sock pattern.
A knit-check. ~ can you believe I didn't have one of these? I had at one time a plastic one, but it cracked.
Good smelling Martha Stewart candle, raspberry & orchid. It is now in my bathroom ready for long hot baths.
A bar of glycerin soap, and chocolate. Oh and the white tea. It was delicious.

The best. It was so nice to feel spoiled after all the hard work of company.
Thank you SP9.

Save the cheerleader, Save the world.

God I am hooked on Heros.

I had some very good feedback from my boss today. It is so good to be back in the corporate world again. And on the knitting front I finished cousin-baby socks #2. So no froze toes for those babes. Out in the mail in the a.m.
Off to bed for me.

Sheryl and mom pair up for Christmas

Hello Everyone, I am what you call a "guest" blogger...But in actuality I am Sheryl's mom....We have been knitting up a storm "excuse the pun" and Sheryl is making hats and I am making matching mittens for Christmas gifts for the wee ones. So cute! I found that as an avid sock knitter that the mittens were just as much fun and gratifying as socks. I told her I wanted props for my contribution and she said I must post the blog. So nice to meet you all and I must tell you I was the one who forced her to start a blog and now she loves it. Keep up your friendship with my Flag Day gal and you will make mom happy!

no name post

Little to no knitting happening around here. I have started the second pair of cousin-baby socks. Started them both even to keep the process speedy. Er, not exactly working......

Just because I haven't been knitting, that doesn't mean I don't need more yarn.

Tee Hee. These Dalegarn lovelies are pegged for 2 hats. Maybe even Christmas gift hats. Who knows.

rain, rain, go away

Yea, I'm in there......in the yellow somewhere. Yeesh.
On my way home tonight (about 3 miles from home) I rolled (pushed a button)down the driver side window to get a better view at the traffic while tying to make a right hand turn. After the turn I tried to roll (push the button) up the window and Hmm it didn't go up all the way. So I tried again, first pushing the button to go down, then up, then down, then up - all while driving in the dark on twisting mountain roads in the pouring rain. So finally I just put the window all the way down and thought of how to get to work (in the rain) in the morning, how much of a hassle it will be to get fixed, blah blah blah. When I was parked in my garage I took a deep breath and pushed the up button again. Yippee! It worked - it went up - I have a closed window.

Thanks dad!

OK, funny story

Remember these socks?

I know I said they were for Dulaan (and I am still making Dulaan socks) but I sent them off to these angels.

Meet J and C. Babies of my cousin in IL. So I wanted to see who they fit so I could tweak and knit for cousin-baby toes. So here's the story.
Cousin receives socks in the mail. She puts them on J and they fit! She takes them off J and puts them on C. They fit C, but J has started crying (he wants the socks back) so Cousin takes sock off C and puts them back on J. Now C starts crying. So what does a smart mom do? Right now in IL J and C are each wearing 1 sock....and I am never to send just 1 pair in the mail again! Oops.
I am feverishly knitting to get another pair in the mail so at least both feet of both angels will be loved.
*sniff*
