Here we have Glee. Fresh off the needles and ready for blocking and hooks & eyes.
I hate it. I don't like how it looks on me. I forgot the "hang factor" of cotton/cotton blends. This just grows and grows and grows. And I should have added shaping - because man the shape it leaves me in is not flattering!

So minutes after the photo....... frogging began. (all those chins are really mine?)

Yep, all balled up again.

12 neat little cakes. (that is a container that apples come in when you buy them from Costco)

And a new beginning. I was surfing Ravelry and searched for projects made with my Knit Picks Shine Sport and found a lovely photo of this Luna Moth shawl. I think it was even in my Aquamarine colorway. Now that is a sign. I just finished my 1st repeat of chart 2. So far so good. I like the idea of my first shawl project being on a heavier weight yarn.

Like the project above, the blog will be going through some transistions. I will post finished objects and maybe a quick comment post now and then, but I will be taking a break at any attempt at regular posting. I tell you this so you will know to come by periodically to check on me and not have to be checking and checking wondering what is going on with the no posting. (there are others out there still checking on me right?) Now this does NOT mean I am leaving blogland. I LOVE blogland. Maybe too much - that all my time is spent surfing and commenting and that leaves me spent and no posting. You can always find me on Ravelry ; I am (of course) Flagdayknitter over there. Super Sunday

Well it's Superbowl Sunday and my team(s) are somewhere else but a football field. This saddens me. More than you know. I am a football nut, a Chicago Bears nut and for sure starting to become a Seattle Seahawks nut. SuperBowl Sunday and all I am looking forward to are the overpriced commercials.... saddens me so.

We will fight on! There is always next year! Go Giants!

Glee-fully moving along

Here is my only WIP. Yep in 2008 I am going back to one project at a time. I work better that way. I have finished the ribbing on the bottom and bound off earlier today. Wove in the ends (without trimming, waiting until after blocking for that) and threw it on for a Wip Pic.
Pattern states the next step is the sleeves but I haven't decided how long to make them yet so I am moving straight to the deep V ribbing.
So far so good, even with this pic I am still liking this knit. I was in danger of running out of yarn but luckily saw a post on Ravelry about the Knit Picks shine sport in Aquamarine being discontinued. Yikes, I hurriedly ordered more and I have plenty now.

They are done. Monkey socks made out of Koigu yarn. I have long since lost the info on this yarn. This yarn has tried to be many things before finally accepting the Monkey pattern. This have my first try at a picot edging. I love how it looks but it feels like you knit forever before you even start the sock. I will let you know how I like the stay-up-ability of the picot edge later. They are of course on my feet right now. Kitchenered the toe, put them on, took a pic, posted to the blog all in about 4 minutes.

And you know what this means? I only have 1 wip. 1. who hoo! My current knitting project is Glee. (more on her in next post)

Oh, and if you haven't read the Harlot(totally weird) - go. Hysterical.

It's been awhile

I has been awhile since I blogged, a week in fact. The blog still looked current with my Seahawks support the past week but now that the Packers have blasted them out of the playoffs I must move my quite "top model" fashion shot onThis weekend I ordered his cap/gown/tassel and announcements for graduation. *sniff*

I remember a day in 1990 when I called my mom crying and said "he's gonna leave me" and when she asked who?/when? my reply was "(the boy), someday" So as a mom I guess I have been preparing myself (more like dreading) for this next phase of "the boy's" life.

I am both very proud and very scared.

Made from my Knit Picks Memories in Redwood. I didn't continue the pattern down the foot on these. I made them more clog socks. Hmm, easy - but it felt like cheating. I wore them today. Nice and soft and warm.

We finished, and it was a good thing. Our family present exchange was moved up to today. Whew. The boy is also glad we are finished. He was tired of us having him try them on repeatedly - repeatedly. He was the perfect double to the bro feet. Now I can knit the boy some socks too!

One more day of work (a shortened day) and then a leisurely Christmas morn. Ahh. I am so looking forward to it.

Essential Socks for bro

A progress shot of a pair of socks for my brother - maybe for Christmas, maybe not. No pressure here. Mom and I are knitting these. Each knitting one. It was fun finding our gauge.... We found a perfect match with me on size US 2s and mom on US 3s. We are even getting the same row gauge - unheard of! We check every inch or so. We hope to get to the heel today before mom heads back to the ranch. We can work the heel/turn/gusset on our own before meeting up on the foot to make sure we are still "spot on" with our gauge. Yarn is a new one for me, Knit Picks Essential Tweed - Russet, which is more a rich chocolaty brown.

When I moved here my brother told me that if I used an umbrella people would think I am a tourist. You see in WA we don't use umbrellas, not just for some "weather." That is what drizzly, spotty, scattered, showers are here. See midwesterners have billions of words for the wet stuff, here? just "weather." Well people we have been having some "WEATHER" here the last 24 hours! In fact :
Gov. Chris Gregoire declared a statewide emergency as the largest storm to strike the Northwest since last December brought hurricane force winds to the coast and torrential rains elsewhere, sending some rivers to their highest levels ever.

I attempted 2 socks on 2 circs. from this book I didn't like it. Too fiddly for me. I've done stranded knitting with 2 skeins of yarn going, but I just didn't like two projects and 2 skeins at once. So genius that I am, I put each on 2 circs (God bless my knit picks needle stash) and away I went. See 2 socks at the same time - just 4 needles. Ah - much better.

These are out of 1 skein of Knit Picks memories in Redwood Forest.(I think) I don't see memories up on the site - hmm, just a color card. I love it! Very schmooshy. I would buy more if I could find it......hint - hint. And speaking of buying more - just got my "your order has been shipped" e-mail from my last Knit Picks order and I already have at least 1 more brewing in my head - trying to wait until after Christmas. yeah right! Oh and the stitch pattern is Corded Rib from the bible.

That's right, big pink has been frogged. I wanted a roomy tunic and as you can see I was not getting one. I was not happy with the way the sleeves were pulling. Also the yarn was not my favorite. It is recycled yarn from the SIL's sweater. I think I need to soak and set it before rewinding into balls to get some of the kinks out. So back in the yarn stash it goes of awhile until the right project comes along.

In the background, unbeknownst to you I have been knitting a Rebecca doll. Slogging along is more like it. I have been finished with the knitting for some time now, but it was the finishing that had me stalled. Finally last night I set myself down and did it. I think she came out pretty good.

I used 2 skeins of Telemark in cream. The pattern is from the magazine website as a download. They also have several free pdf patterns for the clothes. As you can see she is nekkid and in need of some warm knits.

Yep, I'm home. No work. In fact it is 10:19 a.m. and I am still undressed, unbathed and unashamed. I have however had a nice leisurely breakfast, started a load of laundry, cruised the blogland and now I am posting.
Priorities people!
I already had the afternoon off from work for a dentist appt.
Deep Cleaning Part 1. eek, sounds scary, and decided to make a day of it and sleep in.

Slow progess on the monkey socks. Picot edge, 4 pattern repeats and now working on the heel flap. No rush, these are mine.

oh, and by my best calculations we had 194 trick or treaters. Some candy left for me!

Big Pink is back

And it looks just like this + 4 rows. With the weather turning to 50 and rainy (for oh the next 4 months or so) I had to face up to the fact that Glee will be for spring/summer 2008. So out comes Big Pink. Now if you remember this is a melding of a V-neck tunic pattern from Knitting Pure and Simple and the waist shaping of Green Gable. I had put it on waste yarn sometime during it's hiatus because I thought I needed the needles for another project - which I didn't and did not put it back on. Why is this a problem you ask? Well did I write the needle size down anywhwere? Could I remember what size I was using? No, and No. So I had to swatch - - - again. Ugh. 2 swatches for 1 project. Double Ugh. But I am back in the saddle again. Oh did I mention I couldn't really decide which swatch was right and promptly put the wrong size onto the project and knit 5 rows, and had to rip back and use choice #2. Funsville. Any-who, now it is just around and around and around for 4 inches. I shouldn't get into too much trouble.......

I was thinking (I know - never a good thing) that with my other large projects of Big Pink sweater (just past the dividing for the sleeves) and Glee (still increasing) I needed a smaller project to keep me going. What did I cast on for???? Ene's Scarf from ScarfStyle. I know! Insanity! But I have been yearning to try my hand at a non-sock lace project and have always liked Ene's Scarf. I like that it is scarf sized and not a full shawl.

I recently purchased some Knit Picks Shimmer in this yummy fall color, Maple Leaf.

Blame the start of football season for this focus on fall. I equate football to crisp fall days and even snow for late season - I am from Chicago. But here in WA in Sept where the trees stay green forever, I need to create my own fall colors.

CO of 375 sts and row 1 complete, only 178 more to go. The goal is to have it done by Superbowl. Impossible?

These are going out to my friend in IL. 90 degrees in Chicago and I send her 100% wool socks. So? These are a simple 3x2 rib made in Mountain Colors that I received in a sock swap. Sorry no color, no idea where the tag went. Stacey has a big foot and I had to fudge a little at the toe and add some Telemark heather. I think it worked out well.

That is how long I have been on the phone with Dish Network. It was about 20 minutes on hold until I got Randy with tech support who had to transfer me to advanced tech support after I exhausted all his tricks and another 20 minutes on hold until Sue tried to help.
This tired story begins Sunday when my satellite went kaput. After eons on hold and some tips and tricks from tech support they said they would ship me a new receiver. I should get it in 3 days. erm, 3 days with no TV....with a 16 year old. Oh fun. So today it came and while I was at work The Boy set up the new receiver. Call #1 to tech support was for activation. Call #2 was to fix the fact that we only had basic channels. Call #3 and #4 were unsuccessful trying to fix remote #2. You see we have 2 TVs and 2 remotes.....but only remote #1 is working - but it is working on both TVs at the same time. So call #5 was from me and after hearing 2 tech support people say "I know what the problem is..." and then "huh" 4, count them ,4 times, they have decided to send me a new remote. I should have it in 4 days. GREAT. 4 days, over the weekend, when The Boy, my mom and myself will be here.
Did I mention that TV #1 which controls the channel selection is upstairs. So I have to go upstairs to turn it on, run downstairs to turn on TV #2, back upstairs to change the channel - repeat.

To reward you for staying to the end of the story I give you knitting. A FO even. The Baby Bolero from One Skein by Leigh Radford. Very cute, very fast, too many ends to weave in. Give me top down 1 pc any day. Me hates the finishing.

Mom was over to help decorate for the football season and work on her charity knit for the football-a-long we joined and cheer on the Bears. We were able to see the game late Sat night on NFL network.
We paid for the FieldPass on the NFL.com website last 2 years, but we think we have a freebie way to listen this year, plus some games on TV...... we will be happy.

p.s. we watch and root for the Seahawks too :-)

the jean skirt fiasco

Tyler finally has a skirt. The jean skirt story is much longer than the skirt itself.
This skirt pattern is a piece from the same pattern set the ill-fated pants came from. It was my goal to figure out the waistband today. Thinking the skirt had less pieces and would take let time to remake (if it came to that) than the pants, I started at 3 p.m. Mom and I were a team. She read (and re-read) the directions as I sewed. (and re-sewed) I put together the skirt pieces, next was that pesky waistband. So if the last time was wrong, how about I do the opposite? Voila - a correct waistband. I moved onto the lining....only I didn't use the lining pattern pieces and that didn't work out so good. I found the lining pattern pieces and cut more fabric and re-sewed the lining. I had to re-press the seams because I had pressed them the exact opposite of the way I should. (are you seeing a trend?) I finished the skirt at 8:30 p.m.

Even though I said I was going slowly, once I got to page 600 it was no turning back. 12:32 a.m PDT Tuesday morning I finished. Made for a tired worker today.
Now it is back to knitting. Plus I need to stash dive for team colors to make a Pre-Season charity knit for Football-a-long. Trouble - not much navy there for a Bears Sweater, might have to make a Seahawks one.

Remember that free doll tunic pattern that cost me $150 (because I bought the doll to wear it....) It is finally finished. I also have a sewing pattern for pants/skirt/jacket. I tried the pants pattern and messed up the waistband but good. So try #2 will be coming up soon.

I was able to see OOTP on Sunday. $5 for the matinee in my wee little town. It was cool. I enjoyed the film and look forward to re-reading that book.

I however am busy reading HP7. While other HP fans are staying up late and forsaking all to rush through this last book, I am taking my time. You see, it is the LAST one, and I um, want to make it last.....

Right now the hardest part is avoiding any *spoilers*

I swatched for Glee with Knit Picks Shine Sport in Aquamarine. I need to go down a needle size. So that is what I will be doing tonight.

The Big Pink is moving along. I have divided for the sleeves and will be setting this aside to work on Glee. I figured I should knit a short sleeved sweater for the summer in light cotton blend first. The Big Pink is recycled wool. hot hot hot on the lap. It is a mixture of 2 patterns but will be a long sleeved V-neck tunic.

As for the noise? So far so good. The boy is sticking to his promise of only playing while I am at work. ;-)

Yep, with forecasted temps in the 90's (weather.com is calling for 99 on WED!) here in western WA what would I be knitting? Why 100% wool socks of course! These are for an IL friend. I am knitting them up at the same time because I don't know if I will have enough yarn, this way if I need to make the toes a different color at least they will be even. I don't know the colorway of the yarn. I do know it is from my secret pal, um Barefoot mountain colors? I am going to have to search my archives and hope I posted the name. Dangit, found the post on Nov 24 - but nope no colorway.
Ah well, beautiful yarn none the less.

I started a my so called scarf to knit on the vanpool(which hasn't actually been on the vanpool yet) and you see the tiny doll sweater, it is so getting bigger. I knit 3 rows a day.....like a penance. The other project is a Rebecca doll. I am in no hurry to finish any of these. Nice leisurely summer time knitting.

I am tooting my own horn about this little beauty. I have temporarily named her Bella. She is a birthday present for a friend's little girl this coming weekend. I loved how she turned out. I tried something new with the way I attach a Babe's hair. The tutu wasn't bad to add, it was the little ballerina slippers that gave me the most trouble. After 3 tries I finally had a pair that fit. I plan to make a carry bag for her and all her possessions.
Such fun!

Guess what I did mother's day weekend? Bella the ballerina was born last night about 7p.m. She is for a friend of mine's 5 year old's birthday. I have the pattern for the babe body - but oops no clothing. I have the book on hold at the library and should be here in plenty of time. A little birdie also tells me I am going to get my own copy for my b-day. yeah!

Greta is happy to have a pal, even if it is just for a short while.

My scrap socks are all done. I finished them yesterday. On the left is the final finished object. Below shows that I tried a different toe.

A "basic" kitchener stitched toe, and a "round" toe. It seems that a round toe is not as deep as the basic, and not as comfortable (according to mom - who is the owner of these beauties) So the round toe was undone and a basic put in its place.

A very fun knit. I used the Komi Vine pattern from this book as inspiration for these. But they are not for the faint of heart. - - - look at those ends you have to weave in!

That's how I have been feeling about blogging lately. Oh don't get me wrong, I blog-read, blog-surf, blog-lurk each and every day. But post to my own blog?.....eh. I don't know what it is. I am knitting. A cutie little baby sweater that is thankfully turning out good. I am also plugging along on the scrap socks. I even sewed up 2 new knitting bags for mom and me in summer red-white&blue. Do I have pics for you? no. Why you ask? Eh, don't know. I think about it, I say I will do it later, and then........I don't.

So to keep you from deleting me from your favorite lists (because I am superbad about doing that to other blogs when they don't post) I will leave you with this stunner.

Isn't he gorgeous? All dressed up for Business Week at school. Makes me forgive him for putting his foot on my coffee table :-)

I started this Saturday while waiting for the boy to finish driver training. (only 1 more Saturday!!) It is the Child's Placket sweater from Last Minute Knitted Gifts. I am using mom's leftover Brown Sheep Cotton Fleece in um Berry I think. The lucky little lady is Molly. It is my Vanpool knitting.

After taking the boy to driver training, grocery shopping, and a little mall shopping the afternoon was spent by making jelly. Yum jelly. I love apple jelly and it is very hard to find in the stores. So mom and I mixed up some juices and jelly making stuff and made some jelly. Apple, mixed fruit, and double mixed fruit. The double mixed fruit is when you mix the dredges of Apple with the dredges of mixed fruit.....it is the pretty pink one on top.

This past week I have been working on a pair of scrap socks. Using up all my scrap sock yarns in the stash. Mine are on the bottom using a pattern from the More Sensational Socks book.

The ones on top are mom's using a pattern from the same book. A word to the wise, when making stranded socks you need to either add stitches or go up a size needle from your usual. We didn't......so now the green/beige ones are going to our Jakers (4 years old) and mine will fit mom's size 5 feet. But they a FUN to make!

I mean a day at work today. Thank God it was Friday because I need the weekend to wind down. But look what I came home to. Ah, The New Testament. Well I do call Sensational Knitted Socks my bible ;-) I gotta say I had begun to wonder if my sock knitting days were over. I had just not been feeling the love lately. In fact the last 2 socks I started (for myself) I frogged. But after looking through this wonderment of sock instructions/info, I feel the sock knitting mojo returning. Page 57 people, that's all I'm going to say. Page 57. I had pre-ordered this awhile ago through my buddies at Amazon. I live way out in the sticks, so I have lots of stuff delivered. Makes me happy. I had even decided that I wouldn't sign up for any more swaps, not even *gasp* Sockapalooza 4 .......but sorry mom, I think this has changed my mind.

The Jaker socks are finished. Father and Sons socks from IK Fall 2006, size 5.5 T knit in Koigu. I used less than 1 skein. So if you have little ones with little feet and just a little yarn - go for it!

I also frogged the sock I was making (Jaywalker in Koigu) for myself. I just wasn't feeling the love. This means my only project on the needles is the Irish Hiking Scarf in handspun. Hmm maybe I will sew up a new knitting bag today.......

As you can tell the weather is wet and dreary, so inside I will be.

Driving update, it is the boy's first scheduled drive day with the instructor. He drove to the driving school this morning, in the rain. He only gave me 1 heart attack while driving today. Improvement :-)

is good news. Or so they say. I have been busy with work, and the boy and not much time left over for knitting and/or blogging about it. But I will share Greta's stylin' springtime top with you. (shh, it's crocheted)

Oh, and today I was bused into Tacoma for the big company meeting. My first one at this company. I have been to lots of company meetings in my day but I have never experienced what I did today. After the lunch was done and before the speaker began we were asked to "rise for our National Anthem" and so 300+ people rose and placed their right hands over their hearts and watched a montage to the National Anthem. Blew.Me.Away.

With a name like Flag Day Knitter you can guess I loves me a patriotic bunch :-)

So the boy has started driver training. The boy needs practice - hours of logged practice. Practice even in the dark. I earned points tonight having the boy drive to the library to pick up my book. (a knitting book of course!) It was light out. I let him drive around town (very small town) and show me all his friends houses. Then we went through the curves of Ohop (the valley) and he says "I want to go to the ranch" (my bro's place) Sure, go ahead. More curves, more traffic, starting to get darker...... He logged almost 1 hour of driving - I counted 10 new grey hairs!

Years ago while in high school/college my career of choice was to be advertising. I eventually became jaded with the advertising world when the commercials began to get slick - but didn't sell the product it was trying to sell. In fact you remembered the commercial verbatim but for the life of you couldn't remember if it was for shoes or toilet paper (when if fact it was for fruit juice!) This prologue is to set up my last 2 weeks. There is some car commercial (see above - we don't know the car!!!) that has a blindfolded teenaged boy solving a Rubik's Cube. Yes the same Rubik's cube of my day (the 80's) And of course this commercial has done nothing for the car sales but has every store in a 40 mile radius sold out of Rubik's cubes. And of course my teenaged boy wants one - if only he was blindfolded for the commercial. So finally after countless trips to many different kinds of stores I went to my trusty Amazon.com. Low and behold they have Rubik's cubes, and in stock. All kinds of them.

You know I had to have the Bears one!

A pair of Simple Shoes from 50 Baby Bootees to Knit, by Zoe Mellor. Cute stuff.

These are for niece Molly. Knit totally from stash (really, how much yarn can these beauties take?) Leftover Cascade fixation in pink. Socks for Jakers are already on the needles. There are 3 of them now, and I have learned. You do NOT send 1 item at a time! All 3 wee ones must have toastie toes at the same time.

Here they are hanging out with a river rock Chloe and I picked up on our walk. I am thinking I will pick up a rock on each of our walks and by the end of the summer we will have a whole jar full....... watch, we will have one lonely pebble.

There's nothing but bad news and re-runs on TV tonight. So I am headed upstairs to the big screen TV to knit a little Jaywalker II with my buddy Harry Potter. (I think I am in the mood for some POA) I also took tomorrow off of work. Woo Hoo! A 3 day weekend. I deserve it. 120+ days of work in a row.......yep I need a break. But before you all get jealous, I am preparing my taxes tomorrow. Ha! gotcha, by preparing I mean popping the paperwork in the mail to the accountant. Like I do my own taxes...ha ha ha, ho ho, hee hee hee. I can barely remember to balance my checkbook. (isn't that what online statements are for????)

Winter Scarf Swap

Yes! A good swap exerience. I love my package and all the goodies.

As for what I have been up to lately? Hrm, well I frogged the Red Light hat, started another hat of my own design, didn't feel the love so I frogged that as well. Went online surfing and remembered I wanted to make a soft knitted doll for baby Caitlyn. If only I could get the out of print German language doll pattern......wait - what do I see? A downloadable doll pattern for $4.37 US?! Yippee - instant gratification. Ordered, downloaded and started. Pictures to follow when it doesn't look so creepy. (you start with the head, I have a finished unattached head - like I said - creepy!)
